If you’ve ever been to Feral Flower Farm in Levin after dark, you’ve probably heard them - those loud little whistling tree frogs that take over the night like they own the place. They’re tiny, chaotic, and ridiculously loud for something so small. And honestly? I kind of love them for it.

The Night Shift
By day, Feral Flower Farm is all about the blooms - dahlias, wildflowers, and whatever else decides to pop up. But as soon as the sun sets, the frogs clock in. Their high-pitched whistles start slow, like a few of them are testing the waters, then suddenly - boom. Full-blown frog rave. They don’t care if you’re trying to have a quiet moment or if you’re out checking the flowers. They’re here to party.

Tiny but Mighty
These little guys are sneaky. One second, they’re chilling under a leaf or hiding in a flower bucket, and the next, they’re launching themselves at your face like tiny green ninjas. They’ve surprised me more than once. But let’s be real - they’re just doing their thing, living their best lives.
The Farm’s Natural Pest Control
Aside from being tiny troublemakers, these frogs are actually pretty badass. They eat mosquitoes, gnats, and all sorts of annoying bugs, which is great for me. The farm doesn’t use chemicals of any kind, probably why they love it here, so an extra natural pest control is a win for me. They’re basically the farm’s rowdiest employees - always making noise, never asking for a paycheck, and keeping things in balance. I love them.

The Sound of Home
As much as they like to cause chaos, I can’t imagine the farm without them. Their whistles are the soundtrack to Feral Flower Farm at night - random, wild, and kind of beautiful in a messy, unexpected way. So next time you’re here after dark, stop and listen. The frogs will be there, singing, screaming, and making sure you know whose turf you’re on.
